Sunday, 24 August. Spanish champions Real Madrid win the Spanish Super Cup after beating Cup holders Valencia 4-2 at home. Unfortunately, Real was reduced to 9 men after Dutch midfielder Rafael van der Vaart, who joined the Spanish champs from the German club Hamburg earlier this month, received his marching orders in the 39th minute while his countryman Ruud van Nistelrooy, who scored a penalty for Real in the 50th minute, also received his marching orders after being shown his second yellow card in the 72nd minute. A 6-5 win on aggregate also allowed Real Madrid to lift this year's Super Cup.
rockin_plumber, you're correct. The last time Nigeria and Argentina met was at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, where Nigeria won 3-2 to win its only Olympic gold medal in football.
