The new system would replace relatively sterile single-lap qualifying with two sprint races of 10 laps each.

The grid for the first sprint would be decided by lot, then the second race would simply reverse the grid order of the first race, to ensure fairness.

So whoever gets pole position in the draw for the first sprint, would start last in the second sprint; whoever pulls second place out of the hat would start 19th in the second race, and so on.

The grid for the grand prix itself on the Sunday would be decided by averaging drivers’ finishing positions in the two sprints.

These two mini-races would last from 12-18 minutes each and would be shown together on TV during the Saturday afternoon qualifying hour.

The racing would be frantic, as would the overtaking, and everyone would be happy – the drivers and teams who get to showcase their skills, and the fans who will get to see much more overtaking action than normal during a grand prix weekend, as well as three racing starts (the two sprints and the grand prix itself). All of which would add huge levels of excitement to a GP weekend.

“I very much hope it’s adopted,” said Hill, which, of course, hints at the pressure that is always needed to bring about much-needed radical changes within Formula 1.

This sounds good :D

Olivier Panis has announced that he will retire from competitive grand prix racing at the end of this season, but has signed a new two-year deal with Toyota to be the team’s third driver.

The 38-year-old Frenchman, who has had an indifferent season when set against Toyota’s high hopes at the beginning of the year, scoring just six points, made his decision to retire during the summer.

Sorry Nomad :( :grouphug:

yes Olivier was fine and a gentleman.

he hope a lot of things with the toyota's team but he never can have the best car he wanted :(

No Frenchman in F1 next season  . No interest for me in this sport in the future except the good performance of Renault

Watching the Italian GP. With the rain, maybe will have a nice show
