Sadness

Rest in peace Angela Lansbury. :( Her acting career spanned 8 decades and she used so much of it to help people. She hired older actors so they could keep their union benefits and had a recurring role made for the actress Madlyn Rhue, who had multiple sclerosis. This ensured Madlyn would be able to keep getting medical care.
 
Akira Toriyama died. He created Dragon Ball and many other titles, plus he did amazing character design work for some video games. He was the designer for my favorite rpg of all time, Chrono Trigger :(
 
Former President Jimmy Carter died. He wasn't known as a great president. All of our presidents have done war crimes and killed people and destroyed countries. However, he devoted the rest of his life to good causes: building and repairing houses with Habitat for Humanity and helping to eradicate guinea worm disease. He had integrity, which many of our current politicians lack. There are some very polarized social media posts going on about him right now but I think after his time in office he showed himself to be a decent human being.
 
Found out someone I used to work with years ago died. She was vibrant and hilarious and I hope she had a good life, though it ended up being too short. Rest in peace :(
 
Found out Rebecca Heineman died. She was the first person to win the Atari 2600 Space Invaders championship, then later on became a video game designer and programmer. I went to scroll her timeline and she died very quickly of an aggressive cancer less than 2 months after diagnosis. Two of her cats died in that time as well. So terrible to have so much loss at the end like that :( I think losing her pets contributed.
 
Dolly Parton died today :(

I was never really into country music but she was fascinating. Not only did she sing but she could play 20 instruments, often with long glitzy nails. She was one of 12 children and they grew up in a shack in a tiny rural town. She built herself up from the literal dirt.

She started a program that sent free books to young children every month, which was expanded to a few other countries. She opened up a theme park near her home town to bring jobs to the area. She donated to tons of school programs, people who had just gone through tragedies, and to medical research to help fund the COVID vaccine. She did everything the rich should be doing, plus she stayed down to earth and kept her sense of humor the whole time. I don't think there will ever be another one like her.
