1976 - The Socialist Republic of Vietnam was proclaimed following the reunification of both North and South Vietnam after the end of the Vietnam War.

1991 - Guns n' Roses vocalist Axl Rose sparked a riot during a concert outside of St. Louis when he jumped off the stage and attacked a fan who was videotaping the concert. 60 people were hurt.

1987 - Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones signed a solo deal with Virgin Records.

1994 - Brazil wins the FIFA World Cup for the 4th time after beating 3-time champs Italy 3-2 on penalties in the Final in Pasadena following a goalless draw. The Brazil players dedicated their victory to the late F1 racer Ayrton Senna, who was killed in a crash at the Imola racing circuit in Italy just one month before the World Cup.

1966 - In San Francisco, California, the Rolling Stones performed its last U.S. concert with Brian Jones.

1970 - The 1970 Commonwealth Games were officially closed. Australia led the medal tally with 82 medals (36 gold, 24 silver and 22 bronze) behind England, who won the most medals (84 - 27 gold, 25 silver and 32 bronze).
 
1963 - The Beatles made their final appearance at the Cavern Club in Liverpool. They had performed nearly 300 shows at the club since 1961.
