1968 – Soviet-led Warsaw Pact troops invade Czechoslovakia, crushing the Prague Spring; on the same day, Romanian leader Nicolae Ceauşescu, publicly condemns the Soviet manoeuvre encouraging the Romanian population to arm itself against possible Soviet reprisals.

1991 – Latvia declares full independence from the Soviet Union.

1997 - At a press conference in the San Francisco Hard Rock Cafe, Carlos Santana unveiled a limited-edition t-shirt bearing his artwork. He autographed 500 of the shirts for distribution to foreign and domestic markets.

1994 - The 1994 Commonwealth Games were officially closed. Australia topped the medal tally with a total of 184 medals (88 gold, 53 silver, 43 bronze).
 
1958 - Prior to forming the Beatles George Harrison joined the band Quarrymen. John Lennon and Paul McCartney were also members.

1966 - The Beatles ended its fourth American tour at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, California. It turned out that the show was the band's last public concert.

2004 - The 2004 Olympic Games were officially closed. The United States returned home with the most medals (103 - 35 gold, 39 silver, 29 bronze).
