What kinda deal do ITV have to show the fukin GP's :x :x :x

ITV, with the help of Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone, has reached
agreement to show live qualifying for the US Grand Prix at Indianapolis on
ITV2.

The show, which will broadcast from 18:50 on Saturday, June 18, was not
part of ITV's original contract with Ecclestone's Formula One Management
company.

But following swift negotiations between the two parties in response to the
thousands of letters and e-mails we received requesting live qualifying
coverage during flyaway races, we are pleased to able to extend a
broader and more comprehensive live package for you, our loyal viewers.

At least they got their act together this weekend :|

Finally we get to see qualifying live

Kimi Raikkonen’s weekend didn’t get off to an ideal start.

The Finn was pushing hard on his first flying lap when he overstepped the
mark at Turn 11, losing the back end of his McLaren and skating across
the gravel.

RALF ESCAPES INJURY IN BIG CRASH
Last Updated: Friday, 17, June, 2005, 22:09

Ralf Schumacher was fortunate to walk away unhurt from a spectacular
high-speed crash which brought out the red flag 15 minutes into the
second practice session at Indianapolis.

The German was travelling at approximately 180mph coming through the
banked final corner onto the start/finish straight when his Toyota swapped
ends on him with no warning whatsoever.

After spiralling into a series of spins the car made heavy rearward contact
with the SAFER barrier on the outside, finally coming to rest several
hundred yards up the road on the pit straight.

The impact ripped off the left-hand wheels of the TF105 and caused
extensive damage to the bodywork and suspension.

Mercifully Schumacher was quickly able to extricate himself from the
wreckage, although he looked slightly dazed as he paused against the pit
wall and was taken to the medical centre for precautionary checks.

The cause of the accident is not yet clear, but the suddenness with which
the car snapped out of shape pointed to some sort of mechanical or tyre
problem.

The banked final curve puts unusual loadings on the tyres but Michelin
boss Pierre Dupasquier said that as yet there was "absolutely no
evidence" that the tyre had failed.

However, while the clean-up operation was carried out Michelin engineers
issued a recommendation to their teams to run with slightly higher rear
tyre pressures when the session restarted.

It was Schumacher’s second major accident at Turn 13 in as many years.

In last year’s race a rear tyre on his Williams let go as a legacy of running
over debris from an earlier incident, and the resultant back injury
sidelined him for the whole summer.
