BBC MESSAGEBOARDS

Advance Notice of Server Downtime

All messageboards on bbc.co.uk will be closed on 17th and 18th May for essential maintenance.

In order to improve the performance of the BBC messageboards, from Monday 17th May 2004 the messageboard servers will be down for two days. All BBC messageboards will be unavailable during this time. They will be unavailable for reading or posting to.

We will be spending this time installing new servers, which will raise the capacity of the messageboards by at least a third. This should improve the general performance of the boards, and relieve the technical problems caused by the servers being overloaded. The speed of the boards should improve, especially at busy times.

Please note that this is a re-tuning of the existing messageboards - it is not the installation of a new messageboard system.

We will also be re-organising the way that messageboards are dealt with internally, which may mean that there are other small changes that you may notice. These are all being implemented to allow the messageboard and moderation systems to run smoothly.

We do apologise for any inconvenience this down-time may cause.
