On This Day.....

1893 - Nikola Tesla gives the first public demonstration of radio.
1989 and onward - March 1 is known as Beer Day in Iceland, celebrating the end of a 74-year-long ban on beer. cheers.gif

March 5 - It's Casimir Pulaski Day, a holiday honoring the Revolutionary War cavalry officer. He did all of these super important things for the military and he's known as the father of the American cavalry.

He also got shot in the butt.

Nobody ever forgets the last part. :D

1475 - Michelangelo was born! The Italian artist, not the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.

He created a ton of great art over his lifetime and made some of his most famous pieces while still in his 20s.

His knowledge of anatomy is really damn impressive.

Here's a detail shot from the Sistine Chapel ceiling:

1940 - Actor Raúl Juliá was born.

He was the best Gomez Addams and his appearance in the Street Fighter movie was the only good part. RIP Raúl.

1576 – Actor Jerome Savage takes out a sub-lease to start the Newington Butts Theatre outside London.

It was one of the earliest Elizabethan theaters, possibly built before the... lol, I can't go on, the name has butts in it. :D

1974 - The Terracotta Army was discovered in China's Shaanxi Province by farmers trying to dig a well. It has over 8,000 life-sized figures of soldiers, horses and even chariots, all made of terracotta. They were arranged in battle formation around the tomb of the first emperor of China.
