   I didnt even see this coming

Lewis Hamilton has had his Belgian Grand Prix victory overturned by the
stewards, handing the win to title rival Felipe Massa, who finished second
on the road.

Hamilton was given a 25-second penalty for cutting the Bus Stop chicane
during his wheel-to-wheel battle for the lead with Kimi Raikkonen during
the closing laps.

With 25 seconds added to his race time, Hamilton has dropped to third in
the classification behind BMW Sauber’s Nick Heidfeld.

The decision brings about a four-point swing in Massa's favour in the
championship standings, reducing Hamilton's lead from eight to four points.

It just goes to show how bent racing is at the moment :x

it's scandalous.

If they have to take this decision, they should announce it 5minutes after and not after the race

I agree with wicky, they just killed the best race of the season :| :x

Can I bring you back to the snippet of the interview I posted last October and re-affirm my point that there is a conflict of interest at the top of the FIA table. :|

And while we are cutting and pasting and spinning stories and so forth,
I just read the Official F1 Website's inter view with FIA president Max Mosley. As Ever, the unbiased one :|

Q: Critics argue that the whole affair was a private vendetta between you and Ron Dennis. How is your relationship with him?
MM: Civilized. We phone once in a while. Personally I have no problems with Ron but otherwise there are differing positions. Just to give an example: Ron would like to finish every race with a one-two victory whereas it is my take that every entrant should have equal opportunities. So those two opinions don’t jar. But what goes for Ron also goes for Jean Todt, Frank Williams or Flavio Briatore.

Q: For Luca di Montezemolo as well?
MM: With di Montezemolo it is different. He is chairman of Fiat and President of Italian business lobby Confindustria. My relationship with him is very personal.

Q: So you are intellectually, socially and personally closer to him than to Ron Dennis?
MM: That is probably correct as I know Luca longer and therefore better than Ron. Indeed I’ve known Ron since 1970, but I became really acquainted with him at the end of the eighties, whereas I have known Luca very well since the beginning of the seventies.

Q: Is Ferrari more important for Formula One than other teams?
MM: Yes.

Not that Max Mosley, Head of the FIA, isn't a Ferrari fan or anything. :|

Isnt it the track stewards that made this decision though :?

AND I find it strange that Ron Dennis says he contacted.....

....Charlie Whiting (FIA Formula One Race Director, Safety Delegate,
Permanent Starter and head of the F1 Technical Department, in which
capacities he generally manages the logistics of each F1 Grand Prix,
inspects cars in Parc fermé before a race, enforces FIA rules, and controls
the lights which start each race.)

After the incident and he stated that Lewis had done enough to satisfy
himself, so surely the race stewards must have had some contact with him??

I think McLaren will appeal and get this reversed.......

I bloody hope so...if it's not reversed I don't think I can carry on watching...there's no point when shit like this keeps happening :(

First I agree with Ron Dennis

Now I find myself agreeing with Coulthard
In a recent interview about the Spa contraversy he said.....

There are a set of rules and regulations, and the race track is defined by
the white lines. In Monaco you don't cut corners, you hit barriers.

"You can argue it was not Monaco, but the driver would have respected
the corner if there was a barrier there. Lewis knew there was no barrier so
he cut the corner.

"He did not need to go across there particularly, he did because he tried to
go side-by-side with Raikkonen and Kimi squashed him in that position.
From a driving point of view you have to look at the white lines as
barriers."

So maybe deep gravel traps and tyre barriers to stop this happening again :?
