1956 - During the 1956 Olympic Games, the water polo game between Hungary and the Soviet Union turned violent when players from both teams fought each other in the pool following the Soviet invasion of Hungary 2 months earlier. This event would be known as the "Blood in the Water" match when one of Hungary's players injured his eye after being punched by a Soviet opponent.

1992 - 07:33 UTC. A McDonnell Douglas DC-10 Crashed while attempting to land at Faro Airport (Portugal) in severe weather, killing 56 of the 340 on board.
The aircraft came in too fast and the landing gear collapsed on touchdown causing the aircraft to break in two and burst into flames.
