all phone uses only the lower 8 khz's of speech. that is to ensure they would use only 64kbs to transfer speech
want to know what its like? take any cd and rip it into mp3 with 64kbps ;)

meaning all the higher frequencies are cutoff making music unrecognizable over the phone

Not true ...when maidencroatia called me and made me listen to the music by mobile phone, I heard it all ;)
