Well it becomes more interesting as Sven pointed out before the match to UEFA and made an official complaint that the penalty spot was not fit for purpose, and the ref decided that end was suitable. He should not have with an official complaint, it was clearly not fit for purpose.
The Ref was crap, but the fact remains England knew beforehand and Beckham should've taken more care, pillock that he is. If we had good ol' Anders Frisk we probably would have won the match. The Linesman gave us the goal that was disallowed, and he was closer.
The ref wasn't particularly good, and I'm glad UEFA will be looking at his work. He made the right decisions in some points, but he made an incredible ammount of wrong decisions (many Portuguese players deserved yellow cards for worse tackles than English but were not given then. the penalty spot was clearly not fit, etc.
But football is a game that can go either way in minutes... England should've attacked throughout, and they didn't. Beckhams performance was subpar and due to his 'personal difficulties' that are clearly affecting his play, he probably shouldn't have been on the team, and the captaincy should have definitely been given to Owen or Cole.
