I rode MaidenMadness talkin with Bocky and another guy (which i forgot  ) about progressive music. i know that there's already one thread about that but where :? it's not the prob.
I wanted to say that i'm a big listener of progressive music. I started as everyone by pink floyd, mike oldfield (he's totally over now and make some shit :( , genesis, jethro tull, yes, blue oyster cult, ELP and the followers (but creative ones :D) like marillion, rush, dream theater, spock's beard and many actual others.

Prog is one of the most interesting music and not boring as certain people can say. For sure, it's not basic and you'll need to enter in this world. But so many diamants i heard from prog. For the youngest in here, they have to know Steve Harris searched and be inspired by prog and many maiden's song are some prog =>> seventh son, the mariner, dance of death, mother russia, to tame a land... He best album of all time is the master piece topographic ocean b YES

and Aqualung by Jethro Tull

Many bands made some prog' music but we never used this words for them but the Beatles played some prog on their white album, dire straits with telegraph road or private investigations, Led Zeppelin on the legendary physical graffiti and with in through the outdoor (caroussel)and many many others but when you talk about prog, ppl say : Oh shit it's boring :(

Dream theater has been needled with pink floyd and yes and their genious is to have reactualize this kind of music with metal (as well they are big musicians) and mixt their diferent feeling withe that but it's some prog music, same for spock's beard (I love them)

And one last thing, I'm surprized coz i never seen some one listening to marillion. I listen to them often, so i wanted to know if you like them or not (specially english ppl )

that's all

excellent thread frenchy :fist:

on the list of bands that made prog albums/songs you forgot deep purple with fireball album and one of the best songs of all time - child in time :drooool:

as you said prog is not easy to get into, it takes a lot of listening the same album over and over(heck it took me 3 years to fall in love with floyd's piper at the gates of dawn, yet another masterpiece of prog music which is because of the atmoshpere and lyrics classified as psychedelic rock which is in fact, prog) but when you realise it greatness its a genre you never outgrow :fist:

but many people out there dont have the will or the nerves to listen to an entire album if they find it boring, also many people are used to judging bands by their songs not albums, which is a concept that doesnt work in prog
in prog you have to look at the album as a whole. why do you think there aren't many singles by prog bands? cause the quality of one song is often sacrificed so the quality of an album would improve. sounds stupid i know but i also think everybody knows what i mean

btw re: marillion i only have misplaced childhood. great album and i need to get more of them. thats what i have been saying myself for a year

but i will get smore marillion's work i promise

Dream theater prefers to call themselves prog rock.

Love.....

Fugazi
Misplaced Childhood
Script For A Jesters Tear
B'Sides Themselves
Clutching At Straws
The Thieving Magpie

And especially "Reel To Reel"

I don't really have any of their stuff after Fish left, which is bad really

Rush 8) 8) 8)
Yes 8) 8) 8)
Dream Theater 8) 8) 8)

Yngwie Malmsteen is called prog now and again, I always thought he was neo classical. Yngwie rules though!
